One of Lafayette’s most well-known residents was the late Cleve Backster, an interrogation specialist with the CIA. During the 1960s, and as a result of his polygraph tests on plants (not a typo), Backster went on to claim that plants “feel pain.” Apparently, and as the polygraph tests revealed, they are also habitual liars.
