SEPTIC SYSTEM INSPECTIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

EarthCare has many certified septic system inspectors on staff at all operating facilities ready to perform a complete inspection of your septic system. A written report will be provided on every system being inspected as required by most real estate transactions. EarthCare's inspectors have been trained and certified by the Pennsylvania Septage Management Association (PSMA) and perform all inspections in accordance with all PSMA guidelines.

WHEN DO YOU NEED ONE?

Septic system certification is necessary when you plan to purchase real estate, refinance a current property or even to provide you with peace of mind in your current property. It is often a good idea for many of those looking to place their home on the market to have the system inspected prior to doing so. Repairing components of the system before the home is sold could prevent potential delays during the closing and could even save the sale of the property.
Remember, your septic system is your biggest utility you will own and it should be treated with respect it deserves.

WHAT DOES A SEPTIC INSPECTION CONSIST OF?

EarthCare's certified inspectors follow the criteria defined by PSMA standards and will evaluate those components that are accesable at the time of the inspection. Those items inspected are:

• Location of tank(s) and drainage areas
• Size and condition of the system
• Age of the system
• Number of occupents living in the home
• Is it currently occupied
• How was the system being maintained
• Pumping/maintance records if available
• Have there been any prior repairs; if so, when
• Number of systems on site

After checking these very important items a more technical inspection is performed. This includes:

• Checking the condition of all tanks located on site
• Septic tank covers
• Inlet/outlet baffles
• Waste lines
• Pumps and all necessary components
• Type of Drainage area and its current condition
• Sludge levels in the tank
• Evidence of prior backups
• If it has an alarm, does it function properly
• Evidence that a repair has been made, was it permitted
• Does the tank(s) need to be pumped

In some cases huydraulic load testing may be required to assist in evaluating the condition of the septic sysytem.

Finally, the inspector will rate the condition of the system and issue a written report including recommendations or repairs that may be necessary for the system to function properly.
