Septic System Rejuvenation

A leach field is used to remove contaminants and impurities from the liquid that emerges from the septic tank. Over time, your leach field area may not drain water properly and a special cleaning may help rejuvenate the soil absorption system. There are a few options to approach this problem.

Boost Custom Cleaning

With a Boost Custom Cleaning, EarthCare technicians will first "de-water" (pump) your leach field in order to remove excess saturation. During this time, we will install a Leach Field Port to allow us easy access to the leach field for future services. Our certified technicians will also “activate” the Boost Bacteria by mixing 25 pounds of Boost with 25 gallons of water.

While the Boost Bacteria is activating, our technicians will use a high pressure water jetting machine to hose down each leach line to begin breaking up the heavy bio-material that has built up in your field. EarthCare technicians will then take the activated Boost bacteria and pour it into the distribution box where we will jet it down each leach field line to ensure that the bacteria is spread throughout your entire field. Over the next few weeks, the Boost will continue to grow and eat away at the heavy bio-material allowing your field to drain more easily.

Finally, we will pour an additional six pounds of Boost into your septic tank before closing it up. As you continue to use your septic system, this bacteria will activate and eventually seep out into your leach field as well.

Sewer Jetting

If you are experiencing any issues with blockages, EarthCare’s high pressure water jetters can help to clean sewer lines, leach field lines, etc.

EarthCare can also send our drain cleaners to jet your lines if you are on the town sewer system and have issues with blockages in your main plumbing line.

Many EarthCare customers schedule yearly jetting maintenance to avoid a blockage. Soap, grease build up, hair and other household debris contribute to the development of sludge in the main line and this could result in a blockage.

TerraLift for Septic Drain Fields

Aeration of drain fields, general landscaping and recreation areas is a cost effective option for rejuvenation of compacted areas.

Clogged drain fields are the leading reason for septic system malfunctions and failures. Over time, soil in septic system drain fields and other areas may become saturated due to insufficient flow of water and gasses beneath the surface of the ground. As the natural circulation beneath the ground becomes compact and clogged, problems occur with drain fields and vegetation. Many people let these problems continue due to the time involved, high costs of replacing an exhausted drain field or landscaping, and the unsightly excavation that is necessary for repairs.

TerraLift offers a long-term solution to all of these concerns. Through a patented soil restoration process, TerraLift can add years of life to virtually any area of specified application. TerraLift not only rejuvenates most existing drain fields, but it can also be used in areas such as parks, golf courses, and construction sites, where water accumulation has created problems. Without proper circulation, drainage and evaporation, soil and plant life may be damaged, and septic systems can fail. Trees, shrubs and grass can also die.

TerraLift is a cost effective, innovative process that offers various options and solutions to problems associated with not only drain fields, but other areas as well. If you have a problem area, call EarthCare for a free consultation and estimate. We will evaluate your site and determine whether the TerraLift process would be beneficial to you. We also offer a one year guarantee on your revitalized drain field. If, for any reason the soil re-compacts within 12 months, EarthCare will come back to the site and redo the TerraLift process for free.

How Does TerraLift Work?

The TerraLift machine uses a long, narrow probe to penetrate the soil and open clogged passages with a combination of compressed air filled with non-biodegradable beads and soil enhancements. These bursts of air produce cracks and tiny fissures within the soil allowing for proper ventilation of fluids and gasses. The beads help to keep the new passages open, and other enhancements/nutrients can be added to renew the damaged soil and plant life, neutralizing any harmful effects produced by lack of circulation. Natural circulation within the soil is renewed, which is vital for restoration of ground and root recovery. When gasses and liquids can flow freely, drain fields function properly and vegetation grows healthier.

Step 1

A long narrow probe is inserted into the soil. In drain field application, the probe is usually inserted beneath the layer of stone. The depth and width of the treated area can be adjusted from two to six feet, and varies according to the specific job specification.

Step 2

Compressed air is then forced through the probe at a controlled rate, to loosen and fracture the soil.

Step 3

Non-biodegradable, non-leaching polystyrene beads and soil enhancements are injected into the cracks and fissures through the compressed air. These materials maintain open passages to enable fluids and gasses to flow freely and prevent re-compaction.

** Note: All of the steps above are repeated every 6 feet throughout the affected area. If space permits, the soil adjacent to the treated area is also fractured.
