Manure, food waste and other organic materials are placed into this airtight vessel where anaerobic digestion takes place. As the materials decompose, methane and other gases are produced. This combination of gases, known as biogas is then burned to generate energy.

Methane gas is 21 times more detrimental to the environment than carbon dioxide and is a major contributor to global warming.
